PA students’ good deeds rewarded

Students from across Prince Albert gathered at the Ches Leach Lounge Monday afternoon to be honoured for their good deeds.

The Community Against Family Violence group through the Co-operative Health Centre ran the Respect Badge Awards event which offered children ages five to 18 awards for their good deeds and hard work.

Students nominated by teachers received a number of awards in different categories including strong leadership, co-operation and helpfulness.

“I was reading their nominations: Good role model, leads by example, engages other young people,” said Sandy Pitzel, a coordinator for the Community Against Family Violence.

Prince Albert Police Chief Troy Cooper was there to help hand out to the awards to the 112 recipients.

“Kids often get recognition for things they`re doing wrong,” said Cooper. “This is one of the few opportunities that we have a community to celebrate the things that kids are doing right. I think it’s just critical that we celebrate things when these kids are doing the right thing.”

Cooper said that these kids become a positive role model for other kids around them.
