Josh Morrissey showed why he is worthy of wearing an “A” for Team Canada in their opening game of the world under-18 hockey championships in Sochi Russia.

He assisted on Connor McDavid's power play goal late in the first period which stood up as the winner in a 4-1 victory over Slovakia. McDavid also picked up a pair of assists.

The Canadians dominated on the shot clock with a 35-13 margin while also killing off eight penalties.

Meanwhile Raider centreman and WHL Eastern conference rookie of the year Leon Draisaitl was held off the scoresheet in Germany's 9-1 loss to Sweden.
