$189 base tax increase recommended in report

A report prepared by the City of Prince Albert’s director of finance is suggesting the city increases its residential base tax by $189.

The report, prepared March 20 by Joe Day, says $189 is needed to fund the recommendations of the budget committee, which also includes an increase to the roadways recapping program by nearly $2 million.

If the recommended base tax were to be accepted by the budget committee, then by council, that would bring the base tax to $276.

This is more than the $257 base tax – with an increase of $170 – that was discussed by the budget committee near the end of its mid-March deliberations.
