PAGC supports re-opening of healing lodge

Mar 24, 2013 | 12:04 PM

The future of a spiritual healing lodge north of Prince Albert remains in question.

The healing lodge located on the Wahpeton First Nation, has been closed for almost a year, since both the provincial and federal governments pulled their funding. Among the reasons given were concerns over security, curriculum, human resources and offender management.

The Executive of Prince Albert Grand Council has completed a thorough review of the program, and has presented recommendations back to the government. PAGC is now waiting to get a response.

A recent report released by the Federal Government, titled “Sprit matters: Aboriginal People and the Corrections and Conditional Release Act”, makes specific reference to the needs of aboriginal Canadians who have been incarcerated.
