Spending ‘A Night with the Irish’ for a worthy cause

Mar 15, 2013 | 6:11 AM

It is getting tougher and tougher to find creative fundraising initiatives, but Rev. Sandy Scott of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church has come up with a classy and creative way to try to raise $50,000 to send kids to camp.

A Night With the Irish will be held on St. Patrick's Day (March 17) at Amy's Restaurant featuring Whiskey and Wine Tasting along with complimentary culinary masterpieces.

“The Irish invented distilling and this is an opportunity to taste and appreciate the art of whiskey making with three fine Irish Whiskies. … We also want the ladies to come and enjoy two fine wines.”

The Tri to Send Kids to Camp Campaign has been an ongoing project sponsored by Riverside, Westview and King George Community Schools with the help of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church. Summer camp can have a lasting positive effect on a child. They also sponsor “cultural camp” for our partner schools, which means each student at the school gets to go to camp and learn about First Nations and Metis culture in a wilderness setting. It is a positive experience for everyone.

“This year we are hoping to send 140 kids to summer and cultural camps and put on workshops around First Nation and Metis culture,” said Rev. Scott. “To do both, we need to raise at least $50,000.00. We thought, with St. Patrick's Day coming up, the whiskey and wine tasting would be an appropriate theme.”

Malcolm Jenkins has been a long-time supporter of Tri and has pledged to match every donation up to $25,000. Additionally, Amy Hadley and the staff of Amy's on Second are donating time, energy and resources to this worthy project.

Tickets are available for $50 per person from Amy's on Second, Mathesons Mens Wear or Rev. Scott at 306-961-4471. Donations of $250 or more will receive two complimentary tickets to this event.
