Sports stories of 2010, #5, Akers bowls his way to another national title

With the temperature rising outside in July, Prince Albert's Lonnie Akers turned up the heat on the bowling lanes.

He turned in an outstanding performance, beating Mitch Davies of Hamilton in two straight games to win the men's singles championship at the Master Bowlers of Canada five-pin finals in Sudbury, Ont.

Akers won the first game of the best-of-three series by six pins, 289-283, and then turned his power up a notch to win the second game 322-189.

Akers, a regular at Minto Bowl in Prince Albert is now a two time National Champion and a former winner of the 900 CKBI/Kinsmen Athlete of the year award.
