Officials warning about Christmas fire hazards

Regina Fire and Protective Services officials are sounding off about some holiday-specific fire safety concerns this Christmas.

“I know, it sounds like we're trying to take Christmas away,” spokesperson Angela Prawzick laughs, insisting she's just looking out for people's well-being.

While she admits it might sound a bit grinchy she's warning against hanging your stockings by the chimney, which is of course a Christmas staple.

“Make sure people will be able to enjoy what's in those stockings. Simply hang them some place away from where the fireplace is.”

She also cautions against leaving the kitchen while preparing that big Christmas meal, noting the majority of Regina's house fires begin in unattended kitchens.
