Rielly rallies Warriors past Raiders 4-1

Feb 13, 2013 | 2:10 AM

Morgan Rielly's two goals paced Moose Jaw to a 4-1 win over the Raiders at Mosaic Place. His opening goal, converting a cross ice feed from Brayden Point at 11:35 of the first period turned the game around as the Raiders had been dominating up until that point.

However less than a minute later Austin Daae would tie the game on what could be the goal of the year. He took a Dylan Busineus breakaway pass from behind his back, tipped the puck through his legs and went forehand-backhand-five hole on goalie Justin Paulic.

The game stayed that way until 7:46 into the second period when a turnover just inside the Warrior blue line resulted in a breakaway for Justin Kirsch and he would bury a wrist shot into the far corner on Raider goalie Luke Siemens who made several big saves as the game wore on.

The Raiders best chance to tie the game came during a power play midway through the period. A Davis Vandane shot from the point deflected to Anthony Bardaro in the right wing circle, but Warrior goalie Justin Paulic scrambled over the made his best save of the night.

That was one of three unsuccessful P-A power plays in the 2nd period as they would go 0-6 on the night and are 0-for-their-last 17. Rielly would snipe his second of the night on a Warrior power play with 1:16 remaining, snapping a wrister into the top corner, short side on a screened Siemens to give Moose Jaw a 3-1 lead heading into the third period.

The Raiders swarmed the Warriors on the first shift of the final frame with Mark McNeill tipping a shot off the post, but that would be the best chance of the final frame as Kirsch delivered the dagger into an empty net with 1:37 remaining.

The Warriors went 1-3 on the power play while outshooting the Raiders 34-30. The Raiders have now lost three in a row on the road. They are also now tied for first in the Eastern Division with the streaking Saskatoon Blades who beat Swift Current 5-4 in a shootout at Credit Union Centre to record their 9th straight victory.

The Raiders host the Broncos Wednesday night.
