Harris May wins 2012 Citizen of the Year award

Harris May received the Kinsmen Club’s Citizen of the Year (COY) award at the Prince Albert Inn Friday night. May was named COY in December but was officially recognized at Friday's event.

May’s volunteer work was the main reason he received the award. Last year, May was instrumental in the success of the Centennial Flight Air Show and has been invaluable to the Prince Albert Historical Society.

A speaker at the Kinsmen Club event said the Air Show injected nearly 2 million dollars into the Prince Albert economy.

May has also worked with the Prince Albert Art Gallery, the Prince Albert Downtown Improvement Association, Habitat for Humanity Prince Albert, and the Calvary United Church.

In his acceptance speech May thanked these organizations and the hundreds of volunteers he was worked with over the years.

He also provided insight into why he feels his volunteer work, particularly at the Historical Society is so important, “because people matter … they deserve to be remembered,” he said.

May has donated his time to Prince Albert charities for around 40 years.
