Sports stories of 2010, #9 Local golfer provides highlights

Martin Ring's return to the top of the heap at the Men's Lobstick in Waskesiu was the highlight of a tremendous season on the local golf courses.

Ring wrapped up a sensational week beating young gun Jock Kriegler in a 15-hole final.

Meanwhile a couple of weeks later volunteers saved the Provincial Junior Championships slated for Cooke.

Over 70 trees were toppled by a hurricane like wind storm just before the July long weekend.

Cooke also hosted the Northern Men's Amateur on the August long weekend which was won by Saskatoon's Brad Phelps and the season wrapped up with Delisle's Colin Cobin beating Ring in a two-hole playoff at the City Open in early September. Ring was forced into the playoff after a score card error cost him two strokes.
