Business of the Day: Source for Sports

Feb 1, 2013 | 5:50 AM

Source for Sports has been one of the premier sports retailers in Prince Albert for more than 10 years.

The store is a “one stop shop” for sports enthusiasts said owner/manager Scott Rogers. “We do all the sporting goods … right from hockey to ball to lacrosse to soccer, broom ball, track and field, volleyball, basketball, so we kind of do it all.”

A key aspect of Source for Sports’ business is outfitting local teams. Rogers said his store can equip teams in a variety of ways, “Whether its jackets, volleyballs, basketballs, jerseys … so team needs for all sports.”

It also helps some of the local high school programs. “We assist in any we can,” said Rogers.

Source for Sports carries a wide variety of athletic wear including name-brand clothing. In order to house all of its merchandise, Rogers said the store had to add retail space.

Source for Sports “recently expanded to 50 per cent more than what we had.” They now have around 10,000 square feet of retail space which will help with merchandising.

The store was getting cramped, “business was growing but the building wasn’t,” said Rogers.

When asked what sets them apart from other sports retailers Rogers pointed to three core values: “customer service, product knowledge, and customer experience in the store.”

Source for Sports is a national chain but all stores are individually owned.

Rogers owns the Prince Albert location with three partners, Dale McFee, David Manson and Doug Hobson.
