Business of the Day – MacKenzie’s Funeral Chapel

Jan 27, 2013 | 7:24 AM

MacKenzie Chapel and Crematorium has been in operation in Prince Albert and area since 1935 and is a division of Northern Funeral Service.

Current owners Brian and Bev Stobbs purchased the business in 2009 and have a combined 40 years of experience in the funeral planning industry.

Brian said MacKenzie has always had a location in Birch Hills, which is the Stobbs home town.

He went on to say that that’s how he and his wife became affiliated with the funeral home and started as a representative for the Birch Hills location before purchasing the company.

“We eventually started working in Prince Albert and taking care of that area as well. As far as the Shellbrook funeral home, in 2007 we purchased the Shellbrook funeral home from their previous owners who were the same owners, at that time, that owned MacKenzie’s and we have been in business out there for five years,” Stobbs said.

He said they serve Northern and Central Saskatchewan.

MacKenzie Chapel is a complete funeral home and is able to do all types of funerals, with a crematorium located on the south edge of Prince Albert.

“We supply all types of services whether it be a memorial service or a full traditional funeral and not only in our chapel, we have an on-site chapel, but we also go out to other communities, churches and halls and preform funerals for people as needed,” said Stobbs.

“We always say we’re there when you need us and we operate 24 hours a day and can be reached anytime. We will be there when you need us is kind of our slogan.”

MacKenzie has remained a family owned and operated funeral home and provides the right services for each client taking their best interests at heart which they say is a necessity when dealing with the loss of a loved one.

Being privately owned allows them to have more flexibility to care for their clients.

MacKenzie Chapel employees about 20 people, including Brian and Bev’s daughter and her husband.

Brian said owning a business was always on his mind so when the opportunity came up to purchase MacKenzie they took the leap.
