Prince Albert SK- The Prince Albert Raiders defeat the Regina Pats 6-4.

The Prince Albert Raiders ended the first half of the 2010-2011 season with a 6-4 victory over the Regina Pats to put the Raiders 6 points ahead of them heading into the Christmas break.

The Prince Albert Raiders got up 1-0 after Shane Danyluk skated into the offensive zone and wristed a quick shot past the Pats defender that beat goaltender Matt Hewitt at 4:38 of the first period. Regina though would tie the game at 1 after capitalizing on a Raider defensive zone turnover. The Raiders would take it from there in the first period. Mark McNeill would get the Raiders up by one after just getting back to even strength; he was able to beat the defenceman wide and looked to pass the puck to the trailing James Bettauer. McNeill however, held the puck, skated into the middle and beat Hewitt five hole with a quick snap shot.

That would end Hewitt's night after letting 2 goals in on 7 shots. Damien Ketlo stepped in to relieve Hewitt at 13:28 of the first period.

The Raiders would continue with the pressure and extend their lead to two with their first shot on Ketlo. Tyler Yaworksi made an exceptional pass to a streaking Mike Winther who split the defencemen and was able to slide the puck past Kelto to make it 3-1 Raiders. The Raiders would score their 3rd goal in five minutes when Jonathan Parker, from just inside the Pats blue line, was able to tip a loose puck to Justin Maylan who was breaking into the zone with speed. Maylan beat the Pat defender and backhanded a shot top corner past Ketlo to make it 4-1 Raiders at the end of the first period.

The Pats showed life in the 2nd frame scoring the only two goals to make 4-3 heading into the 3rd period.

The Raiders regained their 2 goal lead when Jonathan Parker skated up the side boards in the offensive zone and passed the puck off to defenceman Jordan Rowley. Rowley skated into the zone, replacing Parker down low and found rookie Todd Fiddler all alone in the slot who one timed the Rowley pass past Ketlo.

The Pats again would draw within one at 10:57 of the period and it would remain that way until the 17:32 mark of the period when Fiddler buried his 2nd of the game to win the game 6-4.

The Prince Albert Raiders end off the first half of the season with a 14-19-2-2 record and with 32 points, find themselves in four way battle for the last two playoff spots in the conference. The Edmonton Oil Kings, Lethbridge Hurricanes, Brandon Wheat Kings and the Raiders are all within 3 points of each other heading into the break which will make for an exciting second half of the season as two teams will be on the outside looking in come playoff time. The Raiders return to action on December 29th when they take on the Saskatoon Blades in the first of a home and home series with their division rivals.
