An investigation is underway into an incident involving the Prince Albert Police Service and a prisoner.

In a release, police say Parkland Paramedics were called to their cell blocks Thursday morning at 9:10  about a prisoner in medical distress. The man was taken from the station to Victoria Hospital where he later died.

The 44-year old man was taken into custody after receiving a complaint from hospital security at 6:35 that morning, police said.

Police are not releasing any more details about the incident, and at this time say the investigation is still being handled internally.
