The Saskatchewan Roughriders continue to search for their next head coach.

It's been almost two weeks since former head coach Ken Miller announced his resignation to concentrate on his role as vice president of football operations.

General manager Brendan Taman spoke Wednesday on how the search is going.

“We're in a process that's going along pretty well,” said Taman.  “We're almost done the first phase and done with interviews.  We have a couple more to do, but we're getting there.  It's a long process.  Interviews are not five minutes, they're five to six hours per guy, so it takes a while.  “

He says they've narrowed the choices down to about six with people in house and those not a part of the team that have been talked to.

“There are positives to the inside people and there are also a lot of positives to the outside people,” said Taman.  “We're exploring every rock we can uncover.”

Taman also talked about the list of free agents within the team.

The CFL released the list Wednesday and among the players are defensive back Lance Frazier and offensive linemen Gene Makowsky and Jeremy O'Day.

Taman says it's a process that is a bit difficult with no head coach.

“I've talked to a couple of guys and traded numbers back and forth,” said Taman.  “Once we get this coaching resolved, we'll get on to the other stuff.  To be fair to the head coach, he has to have an evaluation of these guys.”

Also on the list is offensive tackle Joel Bell, defensive back Daniel Francis, running back Neal Hughes, linebackers Kitwana Jones, Sean Lucas, Mike McCullough, and Kye Stewart, offensive lineman Wayne Smith, and cornerback Chris McKenzie.

The free agency period starts February.16th, 2011.
