The Prince Albert Women’s Network (PAWN) put on their 3rd Annual Christmas Extravaganza on Wednesday to help raise money for the Prince Albert Women’s Shelter (PAWS).

Lorna Boryski was one of the many women from the network who helped put during the event.
“It went absolutely wonderful,” she said while chuckling.

“We were very, very pleased and we did fantastic so we can’t complain.”

Overall the fundraiser brought in $478.26 which will all be donated to PAWS.

“There are always things that they need,” said Boryski.

“Last year’s total they had over 1300 women go through the shelter door so you can imagine the expenses that go on with that.”

She said being able to donate to an organization like PAWS is huge and that helping women is a very viable need within the city and everywhere.

“One in ten women are abused in some way and those are people that use the shelter. And that’s throughout every race, every wage sector, everything, the statistics are one in ten. As our networking group that’s what we want to do is just help. We’re women helping women in business through our networking group, that’s what our focus is and we thought we would just spread it on to other women that are not necessarily in business, but definitely in need,” Boryski said.

She said this is the largest fundraiser out of the last three years.

Boryski would like to thank the Hazeldell Community Centre, who was a large contributor to the event, which was a total surprise to PAWN, the centre donated the rent for the hall.

“We were shocked, it was a big surprise, it was cool,” she said.

She thanks everyone for coming out and helping make the fundraiser a success.
