Prince Albert senior soccer players bring home national tourny medals

Two Prince Albert soccer players will be bringing home medals from Canada Soccer national tournaments.

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, Elizabeth Hudon picked up a bronze medal at the senior women’s Jubilee Tournament, while Dwayne Gareau picked up a bronze medal at the senior men’s Challenge Cup.

Hudon scored four goals in five tournament games with the Saskatoon Hollandia Impact and was in a four-way tie for the goal scoring lead. Three of Hudon’s goals came in the bronze medal game, scoring all three Saskatoon goals in a 3-2 win against the Beauport Royal Select from Quebec.

Hudon graduated from the University of Saskatchewan Huskies soccer program and set franchise records in goals, assists, points, shots and games played.

Gareau, 32, was a part of the national winning team last year, Saskatchewan’s only national winner since the Challenge Cup began back in 1913.

The Prince Albert Celtic U14 girls were in Vaughn, Ont. for their national tournament and finished in eighth place in a 12-team field.

Celtic scored just one goal in their five games and finished the tournament with a 0-3-1 record.
