Lions present good test for Roughriders

Aug 18, 2012 | 7:57 AM

It's the day before a big test for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Friday we found out that the roster is now finalized, so why not face possibly the best team in the CFL, with only one key player missing from the line up.

Offensively, the Lions boast a number of weapons. Running back Andrew Harris, receiver Arland Bruce III…oh and that Geroy Simon guy, I heard he has the most receving yards of all time or something. It's kind of cliche, but in this case the best defense might actually be a good offense.

“If our offense can hold the ball for a long period of time, and limit they're offensive chances we should fair pretty well,” said defensive backs coach Barron Miles.

Other than that, Miles hopes that the players can stick to the game plan, and do the little things right in order to keep that Lions offense at bay.

That being said, not everyone sees it the same way.

“Not really, we can't worry about that,” said quarterback Darian Durant. “We have to make sure we go out and take care of our business.”

The Riders offense is also going to be put to the test, with a B.C. defense that is starting to get pretty stingy.

“They have a great defense, and everyone starts up front with those guys,” said Durant. “We definitely have to control it up front.”

One thing that will certainly help will be the suspension of Lions defensive lineman Khalif Mitchell being upheld, but the Lions still boast a very strong front 7.

“We got to stick to what we do as an offensive line,” said assistant offensive line coach Dan Goodspeed. “Play with great technique, execute our game plan, and if something does go wrong, that we just get rid of that play and come for the next play.”

Kick off is at 5p.m Sunday afternoon on TSN.
