Back to Batoche set to celebrate it’s 42nd year
Back to Batoche is a family-focussed event designed to celebrate and enhance the Metis culture.
Located in Metis heartland , Back to Batoche is celebrating its 42nd year. With its roots in family and culture, many of the organizers and, indeed, Mr. and Mrs. Batoche 2012, were participants at the original shows.
“We host this event every year to not only celebrate Metis culture, but to honour different aspects of our community,” says Media Relations Coordinator, Gaylene Poulin. “In other years, there has been a theme. Last year, we honored our elders, for example. This year, we are honoring our youth and recognizing their place as role models so all the entertainers are young people and are all from Saskatchewan and Manitoba.”
Poulin is also very happy that the Ille a la Crosse Cadet Corpe will be attending this year’s event. This group of young people encorporates Metis tradition into their training. They are the only group in the world to do so.
