The Alfred Jenkins Centre is expecting to see a shortfall in its $16.8 million budget from over runs in several areas and new additions to the facility.

According to a report from city manager, Robert Cotterill, the centre is expecting a shortfall of approximately 3.1 per cent, or $522,475 over the expected $16.86-million budget.

During construction, there were a few delays, necessary modifications and additional engineering fees. As well, the report hopes to include about $83,000 of additions including an irrigation system for the outdoor soccer fields.

With the overruns, the project is still expected to be paid for by 2014 out of the city’s capital projects levy, which taxpayers contribute to and through donations pledged prior to construction, which will be collected for several years.
