Less than two months after re-elected Chief Duane Antoine of the Poundmaker Cree Nation pleaded guilty to theft under $5,000, some people on the reserve are calling for his resignation.

Both Antoine who was re-elected on Friday along with Councillor Colin Favel who is also charged in connection with allegedly misspending band and treaty land entitlement funds, should not be in a position of power, said resident West Favell. Under band custom, community members convicted of theft or fraud are banned from council, he said.

“This was all manipulated to begin with. We knew exactly what was going to happen but we went ahead with it anyway,” he said.
