Stimulus deadline extended

Dec 2, 2010 | 4:12 PM

The province is getting a break from the federal government. Ottawa will now pay all of its share of construction projects launched through the economic stimulus plan.

The feds had initially said those projects unfinished before the March deadline would be left unfunded – a financial burden for the province given the many delays here caused by the bad weather this summer.

“A withdraw of funds to this nature would have been a burden to the province of Saskatchewan,” Darryl Hickie, Minister of Municipal Affairs, said.

Hickie said, he thinks Ottawa listened to the protest coming from the province and stuck with common sense.
