New parking meters installed in Prince Albert’s downtown

Jan 24, 2012 | 2:04 PM

New parking meters have now been installed in Prince Albert’s downtown.

The new meters will continue to accept coins including 25 cents, one dollar and two dollar coins, but as an added convenience will also now accept metercards.

Metercards are a cashless way Prince Albert residents can now pay for their parking.

The cards are available for purchase at City Hall. Each metercard will come preloaded with $20 after which they can be  re-loaded in $10 increments.

Hourly time limits still apply when using the metercards. And the card will only debit the amount of time actually used.

Complete instructions for the metercards will also be handed out at the time of purchase.

The city would also like to remind residents to take note of the handicapped parking meters that are marked by blue tops and signs.

Right now there are 18 handicapped meter locations throughout the downtown area. Each meter is reserved for handicapped parking and a $150 fine (if paid in 10 days) will apply for those who do not require it.
