Local student’s artwork to appear in calendar

Hours of drawing and shading paid off for a Rivier Academy student.

Janessa Fouillard, 16, was one of 14 grand prize winners in the 2011 Conexus High School Student Artwork Calendar.

The Grade 11 student submitted “Iris Beauty.” It is a pencil drawing of a purple iris.

“It took four, five, six hours by the time I got all the shading done and stuff. It was a pretty big picture,” she said.

The contest was open to all Saskatchewan high school students. There were a total of 73 entries.
Foulliard heard about the competition in school.

“It was actually in my art class, we were supposed to enter into a competition. I wasn’t too sure of it first, but then I got into it and it turned out really good,” she said.

She did not expect to take home a prize.

“At first I wasn’t too sure because I thought more people would enter, but I was pretty surprised when I won,” she said.

“I was really excited, now that one of my art pieces would be shown.”

The calendars are available at Conexus locations starting today. Fouillard’s art work is the month of March.
