Melville will host Hockey Day in Saskatchewan

Nov 22, 2011 | 4:32 PM

The 5th annual Hockey Day in Saskatchewan is set.

Melville will be the host community for the January 21st, 2012 event.

The day has been set aside over the last few years for the province to celebrate and promote the game and strengthen the community spirit through hockey.

While Melville will be the host community, the Saskatchewan Hockey Association is encouraging all towns and cities to plan their own fundraising events on the weekend of January 20th-22nd.

The host communities have raised roughly $250,000 in the first four years of the program.

WHL Youth Experience

The Western Hockey League is also getting involved again this year.

As a part of the events, minor hockey teams from around the province can submit applications as of today to get their team tickets to a WHL game.

“The WHL Youth Experience Contest has allowed more than 200 minor hockey players and coaches to attend live WHL action. This contest provides a team-building experience and a chance for young teams to realize the positive outcomes hockey can bring through hard work and dedication,” said Kelly McClintock, General Manager of the Saskatchewan Hockey Association in a release.

10 teams will be selected. You can submit your minor hockey league team HERE.
