New year, new faces in the Prince Albert police

Nov 21, 2010 | 2:38 PM

The start of the new year will bring some new faces to the Prince Albert Police Service.

Three new police officer positions have been created because of funding from the provincial government.

Sgt. Kelly McLean said, they are in the process of recruiting for these positions.

“We haven’t decided at this point in time whether they will be new recruits or experienced police officers, but we anticipate that it will be a combination of those two things.”

McLean said, they are grateful to the government for the funding.

In a statistics report by the Prince Albert Police Service, general crime occurrences are up by 7.8 per cent over last year.

The amount of tickets handed out for things like animal bylaws, traffic violations and vehicle inspection were also up 11.6 per cent.

“I guess the bottom line is that we’re always in need of more staff here. We’re a very busy police organization and it is always a pleasure to welcome new colleges into the service.”

The new officer positions are effective Jan 1, 2011.
