Wind and snow makes for terrible driving conditions

Snow combined with gusting winds is making it difficult for drivers on Saskatchewan highways.

“In the open areas, there is a lot of poor visibility with blowing snow due to a fairly brisk easterly wind,” said Albert Skeeba, with Environment Canada.

Saskatchewan’s Highway Hotline is reporting winter-like conditions on almost all highways throughout the province, but none have been marked “not recommended” for driving.

Prince Albert is on the northern edge of a winter storm that's tracking through the province.

The Prince Albert area can expect up to five centimetres of snow before the system moves past the city, along with cold temperatures, Skeeba said.

“The snow should last pretty much all day today. It’ll start ending late this afternoon, into the evening,” he said.

“In fact, we’re looking at some fairly cold temperatures for the next little while, with daytime highs of only around -13 C or -14 C,” he said.

Tonight’s forecast is a low of -23 C.
