Four-way stop to improve traffic

A busy intersection that feeds St. Mary High School is now a four-way stop.

The stop signs went up at the 13th Street and Third Avenue West intersection to handle increased traffic counts and concerns from the school and neighborhood residents.

“There was a concern over people not yielding to the stop sign as much as they should,” said Keri Sexsmith, transportation project manager for the city of Prince Albert.

Sexmith said they were hearing that traffic congestion was making it difficult for both vehicles and pedestrians to get across.

“It was very close, “said Sexsmith. “ Since the intersection is only going to increase in traffic a four-way stop was installed.”

Sexsmith said accidents were not a big issue at the intersection with three being reported in each of the last two years.
