One month after 10 talented musicians received their grants, Rawlco Radio is announcing the next 10 recipients of Project 10K20 Saskatchewan.

Each receives a $10,000 grant to professionally record an album. Among them is Amy Nelson, a country singer from Regina. Nelson says the project supports Saskatchewan artists by giving them a chance at success here at home.

“One of the things I was told when I pursued music was I'm going to have to move to a bigger centre or I'm going to have to not base myself in Regina,” Nelson said.

“The whole program is great for our province and great for artists here and it kind of is one more thing that proves you don't necessarily have to live in Toronto or Vancouver.”

Nelson has already opened for some big name Canadian country artists like Terri Clark and Aaron Pritchett.  She plans to use the money to record her first full-length album. Her debut album was put out in April 2009.

The latest 10 recipients of funding are B.C. Read (Saskatoon), Violent Kin (Saskatoon), David J. Taylor (Regina), Amy Nelson (Regina), Jasmine McGuin (Prince Albert), Black Book Value (Saskatoon), Aaron Adair (Saskatoon), Melissa Mannett (Regina), Laura Roddick (Regina), and Meghan Bowman (Guernsey).

Previous recipients announced on Oct. 5 were Kathleen Claire (Saskatoon), Josh Palmer (Saskatoon), Kerri Senkow (Regina), Jeffery Straker (Regina), Samara Young (Yorkton), Mobadass (Saskatoon), All of the Above (Saskatoon), Jack Semple (Regina), Magnetic (Regina) and Scott Benson (Moose Jaw).

Rawlco will announce 20 new recipients each year for the next three years, pumping a total one million dollars into the Saskatchewan music scene.
