Inmates to have calls monitored

Nov 17, 2010 | 5:26 AM

Inmates at provincial correctional centres will soon have their calls monitored.

An amendment has been introduced by the government to listen in on these conversations.

Minister Yogi Huyghebaert said there are plenty of reasons why it is necessary, citing examples of harassment of witnesses, crank calls or even the planning of criminal activity.

Previously a warrant was needed to monitor calls this will allow for blanket access of what is deemed a possible suspicious calls.
