Deadly crash on Highway 16 east of Saskatoon

A portion of Highway 16 just east of Saskatoon is open again after being closed for several hours following a deadly crash early Sunday morning.

Two cars collided head-on about eight kilometres east of the city at 6 a.m. Sunday.

One of the drivers was dead by the time emergency crews arrived from Saskatoon.

The other driver and a passenger were cut out of the wreckage by firefighters and rushed to hospital in critical condition, said the Saskatoon fire department.

RCMP members were on the scene for about four hours, rerouting traffic and trying to piece together what happened.

The highway reopened just after 10 a.m Sunday.
