KISS rocker guards net at Saskatoon Blades game

There were as many KISS shirts as there were Blades jerseys.

Upwards of 9,000 fans made it out to Credit Union Centre Friday night for the hometown team — and a special taping of the reality show “Family Jewels.”

Many were there to catch a glimpse of Saskatoon native Shannon Tweed and the rock icon himself, Gene Simmons, as they shot a few scenes for their show.

The cameras were rolling when Simmons donned goaltending equipment and got between the pipes during the first intermission.

Simmons was asked afterward about his netminding debut.

“There's a complete loss of all bodily functions. You can't walk, you feel like a duck, I broke my water. It was just horrible,” said Simmons.

Tweed said she usually keeps a low profile when she comes home to Saskatoon, but this time it's different.

“I was pestering our producers to maybe investigate the other half of Gene Simmons Family Jewels, which is the jewel part. And so here we are looking into the other half of my kids' heritage,” said Tweed.

The show is scheduled to air sometime next summer
