Boy pleads guilty to machete attack on cab driver

The youth charged with attacking a Prince Albert taxi driver with a machete is changing his plea.

The teenager pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and two breaches of recognizance, Friday morning.

The assault took place in April and left a checker taxi driver with nearly 150 stitches, and several lost teeth.

Then the youth was caught trying to steal a truck while out on bail, where he gave a false name to officers in Debden.

The charges were dropped for attempting to steal the vehicle because the victim didn’t want to pursue legal action, said the crown.

They are seeking the maximum sentence available under the youth criminal justice act.

The teenager was a no-show for his original trial date, Nov. 3. A warrant was issued for his arrest and Big River RCMP found the young man.

He's now in custody until his sentencing in December.

The failure to appear charge is still pending.
