The Roughriders hit new low, loss drops record to 1-7

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are now sitting in the CFL's basement after a 24-18 loss to the Toronto Argonauts.

In need of a win against the hometown Argonauts, the Roughriders played one of their worst games of the season. The Roughriders scored just four points in the first 53 minutes of the game but were able to find some offensive explosion to make the game interesting late in the fourth quarter.

Chris Getzlaf and James Robinson both caught touchdowns from Darian Durant with under seven minutes left in the game. The Roughriders fell short on their comeback after trailing 24-4.

The Roughriders got the ball with 1:30 remaining in the fourth quarter and got the ball to the Argonauts 22-yard line but the drive stopped there.

Saskatchewan's first play from scrimmage was indicative of the entire game as Durant had the ball slip out of his hands with Toronto jumping on the ball to recover the fumble.

The Roughriders ended up with four turnovers in the game, with the Argonauts not turning over the football.

Penalties were also a problem. Several big plays were called back because of penalties as the team compiled 93 yards on 10 penalties.

The Roughriders go into their bye week with a 1-7 record and a four game losing streak. The team's football operations will head into meetings to decide what changes, if any, need to be made.
